Moore Packaging’s Peter B. Moore Gives The Gift Of Knowledge And Education
The Georgian College has announced the opening of a new facility at their campus in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Developed in partnership with Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and with the financial support of Peter Moore of Moore Packaging Corporation, the facility offers innovative programs in the engineering and technical engineering fields that enable students who have successfully completed the four-year program to receive an engineering degree.
The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art research and collaboration space, as well as infrastructure and equipment to actually apply knowledge and further a student’s studies in emerging technologies in robotics, mecha-tronics, manufacturing, and assembly. Further, the facility has the only anechoic chamber in the entire region to measure sounds and electromagnetic waves emitted by a variety of devices, critical to the engineering discipline. This goes a long way for students who wish to pursue careers in the packaging and corrugated industries.
The Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, was developed with the support of Peter Moore of Moore Packaging Corporation, also based in Barrie.

This facility was made possible with the support of people like Peter B. Moore, who began his career path in the packaging industry after leaving his position as a stockbroker in 1972, following a downturn in the market. “I read the proverbial writing on the wall and knew it was time for a change,” says Moore. “I took a sales position in the packaging industry.” Gaining all the knowledge he could after several years in the packaging industry, he recalls, “I felt confident enough to start my own business and go it alone.”
Moore was a natural born salesperson, but quickly learned that running your own company requires more than just a knack for selling, although the two go hand-in-hand. He quickly learned the ropes of running his own company and it was this combination of salesmanship and wanting to run a company that led to the current success of the Moore Packaging Corporation, which has been in operation since 1979, having grown from a one-man operation working out of his garage, to employing over 225 people. “I took a leap and I never looked back,” Moore says.
The Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre is dedicated to the person who not only provided financial support but is one of the main supporters behind the creation of this building. The beautiful, three-story, 56,000-square-foot centre features everything a budding engineering student would ever want and helps the next generation learn about Peter Moore’s first passion, the corrugated board and packaging industries.
The facility also provides employment opportunities to the residents of Barrie. As the Mayor of Barrie, Jeff Lehman explains, “the sheer opening of the Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre means businesses will have better access to research, allowing for new opportunity and innovations and will help to play a massive part in driving our economy and community forward.”
Moore Packaging will be a family business. Dedicated, responsive, and hard working, Peter Moore continues to share his values, ensuring that the custom approach continues to be a part of every package. It is this attitude that continues to grow Moore Packaging to an exceptional team of employees today.
